Fighting for a good photo positon

One thing I've learned over the years regarding photo positions at sporting events is that you never know where the action is going to take place.

You can have a "great" position right in front of the net and nothing happens and other days you can have "poor" position in the middle of nowhere and the play of the game happens right in front of you and you're the only photographer around.

This week I had one of the desirable positions at Ottawa right at ice level with a hole cut in the glass. Well the boys were in a fightin mood and two of the best fights of the year were right in front of me.

I did the best I could.

I was using the Sony A500 and A550 cameras that night with either the 300mm F2.8 or 70-200mm F2.8 lenses. I think these two lenses are the standard at every rink in the league.

  1. I shot for the Devils for a couple of years. My fav point was mounting a Hassey SWC in the cat walk above the goal and firing remotely.
Otherwise my perm position as on the bench.
