NEX7 with new 50mm portrait lens

I had a chance to try a pre-production Sony NEX7. These shots are with the new NEX 50mm portrait lens which is also pre-production.

Over the next few blogs I'll show a number of images from this shoot with various cameras.

The camera has a OLED viewfinder, similar in quality to the Sony Alpha A77 and A65. I did use the viewfinder, shooting in the manual mode. The viewfinder allows the camera to work similar to an dSLR without the bulk while still providing easy control of both shutter speed and aperture. The NEX7 has a 24mg sensor so the image quality is the same as an dSLR as well.

I had to give the camera back to Sony but will continue playing with it once I get it back.

  4. How is the low light performance on this camera in JPEG? Is it as poor as the A77?

    Thanks.

  6. this is good enough to keep the order in and not change for the NEX5n yet... Keep them coming

  7. These shots don't look like f1.8, could you shoot a couple at f1.8?

  8. Hey Rob,

Can you please give us your initial impressions of the ISO/low-light performance of the NEX 7. How does it compare to the A77 and NEX 5N? I am particularly interested in how it compares to the 5N. I will hold off on any judgement until someone gets their hands on a production version, but I am still very interested in your thoughts. Thanks in Advance.

  10. Yeap, overexposed of 1-2 steps, due to dark background... I can't judge the combo by images posted... Sorry.

  12. I had to return the camera. There are only two in Canada and someone else wanted a chance. Didn't get a chance to try the hi iso.
