I only brought the 70-200G to this outdoor event. The camera is a pre-production model and doesn't meet the final specs for the Production Models. The lighting was stage lighting and I keep the camera on AWB. The bands where Glory Days, A Springsteen Tribute, and Ian Thomas. These are full frame photos right out of the camera. No crop or adjustments, Jpegs.
I tried a couple ISO settings, as indicated with the photos.
AF was fantastic.
ELV was great and very useful when shooting manual exposure.
I didn't have the Vertical Grip.
This shot was at ISO 1600, 1/250, f.2.8, Manual, AWB, AF on the face, leaning on the stage for support.

I'll continue to play and shoot before drawing any conclusions.

Is the high ISO output in JPEG for the A77 as atrocious as what many in the web have shown and said to be?
ReplyDeleteGreat site. Keep up the good work.
Thanks.
I thought it was very nice... and this is pre-production.
ReplyDeleteActually the pre-production samples at high isos I've seen are excellent.
ReplyDeleteAmazing hi-iso quality!
ReplyDeleteVery nice work!
Amazed that at ISO1600 there is little to no noise at all! Even at ISO6400 the photos are still acceptable..
ReplyDeleteWhat was the firmware that your sample A77 was on??? Because the high ISO looks pretty good in your samples. Not so much in others all over the net.
ReplyDeleteCan you please upload full sized samples?
I uploaded the files to flickr.
ReplyDeleteI don't think blogger allows a full size file.
I'm not sure of the software and had to give the camera back.
use photome from http://www.photome.de/ to find software revision
ReplyDeleteISO performance is about the same as Nikon D7000/Sony A580, from what I've seen
ReplyDeleteDid you shoot any video with this? I am really, really curious about aliasing and moire effects. They were atrocious on the VG10 and NEX-5. I'm hoping they have been fixed on the A77
ReplyDeleteI saw a post recently where you recommended using an A55 over the A900 for sports photography and used an NHL photo from a Leafs/Sens game as an example. After shooting with the A77, how do you feel it would compare to the A55 for this application?
ReplyDeleteThanks.
I haven't had a chance to try it yet at a hockey game. I did shoot rugby and football this weekend and will try and get those posts up.
