Using the 70-400 G-Series as an everyday lens

I was covering the local rodeo, which is how I spend a fair bit of my summer time. I found the 70-400 G-Series to be a great walk-around lens. Images are very sharp and once I got used to the weight I found the lens to be a favorite.

In the past I've carried the 70-200 F2.8 and the 300mm F2.8, but the big zoom seems to cover all the bases and gives even more flexibility than the 300.

These shots are all done on the new A35 with the big zoom.

    Graet pic's. Would like to see this lens on either the A850/A900.

    I am using the Minolta 75-300 on my A850 and pic's are very sharp at most A and Focal lengths

    I've been using the 70-400 for the past 3 months and I can't say I've fallen in love with it. I use it with the A700 and I find that the weight is a big issue but even worse is the rather slow auto-focus.

    If you can, or have the time, please post tips or suggestions as to how to get the best out of this lens.

    Yes, it certainly is large. I've heard it called the G.I.Joe Bazooka lens. But I haven't had any issues with the focus speed. I haven't used the A700 for a while myself, but it has a focus system similar to the A900. I plan to try the lens with the A900 in the next few days.
