Assistant Photo Editor - The National

The National is a seven day-a-week general interest daily newspaper based in Abu Dhabi and covering all of the United Arab Emirates as well as regional and international news, sport, arts and culture.

The National is seeking an Assistant Photo Editor.

The successful candidate should have 3-5 years newspaper or wire service photo editing experience with the critical ability to multitask comfortably while on deadline. The individual should have an active interest in GCC regional affairs plus an understanding, or willingness to learn and work within, local cultures and customs.

On a daily bases the individual is responsible for collaborating with various sections of the newspaper to help develop stories, research suitable photography or commission photographers. The ability to brief photographers clearly and thoroughly is critical, as are organizational skills in handling incoming invoices, edits, and requests.

Working evenings and weekends may be required as shifts relate to sections the editor is assigned.

A strong visual sensibility and the language to express visual concepts and ideas is a must. The National is a visually driven paper with significant presentation space and the desire to be a leader in photojournalism.
