A55 low light

Checking out the low light abilities of the Sony A55 camera.
These shots were done with the A55 at ISO6400. The gym was dark and I was using the new Sony 85mm F2.8 lens.

Certainly they're fine for a newspaper. I haven't make any prints so am not sure how well they'll print up.

  1. Rob,

I'm curious as to your feedback on the low-light focusing of the A55 given the lack of the AF assist lamp.

Does it work well, in your opinion? Is it doing a lot of hunting? How does it compare to others in the price range? And do you feel that the lack of the AF assist lamp is a critical flaw?

    Thanks for your feedback!

  2. Hi Chuck,

I didn't notice there was no AF light. I never use it. With moving players by the time you confirm the AF is on, they subject has moved on.

So I don't miss it at all.

I thought the camera did a good job with AF in the low light, tough to beat at this price point.
